Dissed

There is this girl who has been making the rounds in our social circle recently, popping into the picnics and parties we have attended this summer. Chad knows of her from high school, but she is an entirely new character for me. Naturally, I pressed Chad for all the details he could come up with about her, and so here is what I know: her name is Rachel, she just graduated from college, and her family is extremely wealthy.

We saw Rachel yesterday when making our 4th of July rounds. I normally steer clear of her because her clothes and shoes intimidate me. But yesterday I was feeling good and so I tried to strike up a conversation, mentioning a wedding Chad and I are going to in a few weeks. She asked where the wedding was, and so,
thinking maybe we had found something to talk about, I blubbered on: "It's going to be such a beautiful wedding. The bride's father won a Nobel Peace Prize or something, and the ceremony is on a Friday night, and there is a cocktail hour, so you just know it's going to be all swank and fancy-pants ..."

"So where is it?" she asked again.

I acted like such a dork, but I swear to God I just could not stop it. "Oh," I replied, "Falls Church, Virginia, which is this super nice part of the country, with lots of money and beautiful houses and ..."

I watched this bored look slide onto her face. She flipped her hair over her shoulder and cut me off, very pointedly saying, "Yes I know. I have friends there." Then she picked up her cell phone and turned away.

Yes. It really went down like that.

i had to wait a minute (or 6 hours) to leave a comment in order to collect myself. i will not call a stranger obscene names via the interwebs. those people don't appreciate you. their minds seriously can't comprehend your awesomeness. i love that you're my friend and i'll sit and have a conversation w/ you any day. however, i'll probably still take cell phone calls mid-conversation. i still love you; it's just how i roll, man.

There's that old saying, "Mean people suck, so be nice." This chick, whoever she is, is the epitome of suckiness. I can't stand rude, snooty people. Maybe because I'm the opposite of snooty...
